Fraction Friday

Continuous practice with fractions is both helpful and frustrating. How many different ways can we think to help our students grasp 'em? Sometimes we feel as if we are beating our heads against the wall thinking of new ways and more time to get in extra practice. I know a lot of people have centers or an early finisher bucket for students to choose various activities.

Self-checking items are always helpful. Below is an activity that requires a small amount of preparation but allows students to practice fractions in a different way AND it is self-checking.

Students are given a game board with questions. The answer cards are two sided. The answer to the question for the game board is on one side and part of a picture is on the other. If students place the answers to the questions on the board in the correct place, a picture will be created. Once the prep work is done, no extra copies are needed and students can automatically tell if they answered the questions correctly.  Yay!
